We want to start with the same thing the <\/span>official iPhone User Guide<\/span><\/a> recommends before doing anything else: <\/span>check what\u2019s actually taking up space<\/b>. It sounds obvious, but most people skip it.<\/span><\/p>

Head to <\/span>Settings > General > iPhone Storage<\/b>. Give it a moment to load (if your phone\u2019s nearly full, it can take a bit). Once it\u2019s ready, you\u2019ll see a coloured bar at the top showing what types of content are using your storage: apps, photos, media, messages, system data, and so on.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Scroll down and you\u2019ll get a list of apps sorted by size. Tap on any app and you\u2019ll see how much the actual app size is and how much is \u201cDocuments & Data\u201d, which often includes cached files and downloads.<\/span><\/p>

This is where you get a proper look at what\u2019s really going on. If you spot an app taking up 5GB and you haven\u2019t touched it in six months, it\u2019s probably safe to delete (unless you\u2019ve got plans to use it soon). And if nothing jumps out straight away, that\u2019s fine too. Now let\u2019s go through the steps to free up space on iPhone. We\u2019ll start with the biggest space-hogs like Photos and work our way down.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

You don\u2019t need to do all of it at once. Even tackling one or two of these can make a noticeable difference.<\/span><\/p>

Method 1: Clean Up Your Photos Library<\/span><\/h3>

If you\u2019re like us, chances are Photos is the biggest thing in your storage. And it\u2019s not surprising: Live Photos, 4K videos, screenshots, and duplicates, your library fills up fast without you even realising.<\/span><\/p>

First thing we\u2019d suggest: check <\/span>Recently Deleted<\/b>. A lot of people forget that when you delete photos, they\u2019re not actually gone (they sit in that folder for up to 30 days). If it\u2019s full, clear it out. You might be surprised how much space that frees up on its own.<\/span><\/p>

If there\u2019s nothing in there yet, have a look at what <\/span>should<\/span><\/i> be showing up. The <\/span>Duplicates<\/b> album is a good place to start. iOS does a decent job of spotting exact copies and lets you merge them with a single tap. But here\u2019s the catch. It only works on <\/span>identical<\/span><\/i> files, and it often takes its time to populate, as <\/span>some people are disappointed to discover<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>

That\u2019s why we\u2019d recommend a third-party option instead, like a recent app we\u2019ve tested called <\/span>Clever Cleaner<\/b><\/a>. It\u2019s a completely free app, with no paywalls or trial limits. Everything runs directly on your device (no cloud uploads), and in our experience, it genuinely holds its own against some of the paid apps out there.<\/span><\/p>

Here\u2019s how you can free up space on your iPhone automatically:<\/b><\/p>

  1. Open the app, tap on <\/span>Similars<\/b>, and let it do its thing. It\u2019ll scan your entire camera roll and group together all the lookalike shots.<\/span><\/li>
  2. Tap <\/span>Smart Cleanup<\/b>, and the AI will pick the best photo to keep from each group. It\u2019s surprisingly good at it too, sharper images, faces in focus, better lighting, it knows what to look for.<\/span><\/li>
  3. If you\u2019re happy with the choices, use <\/span>Slide to delete<\/b>. Want more control? You can tap into any group, change the selection, or skip it altogether. You\u2019re in charge.<\/span><\/li><\/ol>

    When you\u2019re ready, tap <\/span>Move to Trash<\/b>, then <\/span>Empty Trash<\/b> to actually clear them out.
